Scotland's whiskies hold an honored place at Oran Mor, a converted church that houses a beautiful bar with over 250 options.

King Tut's Wah Wah Hut has been something of a divining rod for Glasgow's indie music scene for 20 years. Oasis was famously discovered there; Radiohead and Blur played the club before going big; Beck and the Strokes chose it as the site of their first Scottish gigs.

Student-led tours at the Glasgow School of Art include top-floor views of the city and rare access to the library, left.

Behind the cathedral is the hilltop Necropolis, a "garden graveyard" that serves as the resting place for tens of thousands of Glaswegians. It also offers terrific views of the city.

Restaurants and bars line Ashton Lane.
